Escalator Handrail Installation Steps
1. Preparations & Safety
Cut off escalator main power and hang safety warning signs.
Prepare new handrail, tension wheels, guiding tools and protective gloves.
Check handrail for cracks, deformation or damage. Clean handrail return path thoroughly.
2. Remove Old Handrail
Move the handrail to maintenance access position.
Loosen handrail tensioner and release tightness.
Take out the old handrail from upper and lower return bends gently.
3. Thread New Handrail
Feed one end of new handrail into the upper guide channel.
Pull the handrail through the full loop along the guide track.
Align both ends of handrail at the joint position.
4. Splice Handrail Joint
Clean joint surfaces of the handrail.
Connect two ends tightly and weld or press the joint as required.
Smooth the joint surface to avoid scratching passengers.
5. Adjust Handrail Tension
Reset the tension device to keep consistent tightness on both sides.
Ensure the handrail runs synchronously with escalator steps.
6. Inspection & Test
Rotate escalator manually for full-cycle operation.
Check for jamming, abnormal friction or deviation.
Power on and run no-load test for 10 minutes to confirm stable operation.
